Issues: Beach Re-nourishment & Environmental Issues

Beginning with his board membership on the Grand Strand Water & Sewer Authority, Dick Elliott led the fight to clean up the Atlantic Intra-coastal Waterway and other receiving streams throughout the region. Dick has a history of improving the world around him. Before environmentalism was popular, Dick was an advocate of innovative systems for handling trash. In the 1970s he led county officials to visit Ames, Iowa, where new technology in trash disposal had attracted national interest.

An early supporter of beach re-nourishment and the safe handling of beach stormwater runoff, now he's working with other leaders to define specific violations and punishments for a fair environmental crimes bill to keep South Carolina clean. Dick also feeds wildlife around his golf course and farm properties because he wants to create an environment in which animals and people can thrive.
