Issues Job Creation & Tourism
"More than 200,000 people go to work each day in tourism," Senator Dick Elliott says. "Tourism is creating more jobs for South Carolina than any other single industry." But it's time for South Carolina to foster an environment that creates new jobs in the Pee Dee area and the Grand Strand region to achieve economic diversification and balance. . "We need to make South Carolina attractive to technology-related businesses at the forefront of tomorrow," he says. Dick says we must
- Research, recruit and sustain initiatives to foster growth in technology industries.
- Conduct outreach to international companies whose products and services add value to our existing economic base of tourism and agriculture.
- Provide incentives for existing industry to expand jobs in South Carolina.
Senator Elliott has voted consistently on behalf of funds to promote and expand tourism. He believes South Carolina has the potential to expand its base in manufacturing, tourism and agriculture regionally, nationally and internationally. He worked tirelessly with Chambers of Commerce to pass the mini-bottle referendum that will allow citizens to change the way liquor is served. Mothers Against Drunk Driving, as well as other citizen groups, also supported this legislation, with a primary interest towards better highway safety.
He has consistently supported the agribusiness community, better education, a stronger job market and infrastructure. This represents the key to a better quality of life for Horry, Dillon, Marion and Marlboro counties.
