Issues: Road Construction & Planned Growth

State researchers predict that 25% of South Carolinians will soon live within 25 miles of the coast. Next to our people, the beach is South Carolina's greatest natural resource. Senator Dick Elliott has worked with local, state and federal officials as your advocate for planned growth that ensures quality of life and upholds property values. Dick Elliott understands that we cannot pull up the drawbridge and ban growth, but insists we must find a better way to direct that growth and monitor its effects.

Dick Elliott was a leader who got things done such as pushing passage of the S.C Highway Infrastructure Act that provided the state portion of funds to build the Conway Bypass, the Carolina Bays Parkway, the Main Street Connector, and support the creation of a bypass for Little River, and he has worked on behalf of I-73 for almost two decades. He has also been a tireless advocate for improving SC Highway 9 by getting 35 miles upgraded to four lanes from the coast to the Green Sea area. Currently he is working with the South Carolina Department of Transportation to upgrade another section of Highway 9 to four lane status, as work continues to build Highway 9 into a major four lane highway from the coast to I-95 and points beyond.
