Charleston, SC - South Carolina State Senator Dick Elliott, representing Dillon, Horry, Marion and Marlboro counties, has presented the South Carolina Marine Association (SCMA) with a concurrent resolution passed by the Senate and the House of Representatives designating June 12, 2010 as the annual National Marina Day in South Carolina.
The resolution was introduced by Senator Elliott "in order to honor South Carolina's marinas for their contributions to the community and make citizens, policymakers, and employees more aware of the overall contributions of marinas to their well-being."
Suzi DuRant, SCMA Executive Director, said, "According to the Association of Marina Industries, South Carolina is the first state to so honor our industry. Our marinas are the gateway to our state's waterways and play an important role in giving the people of South Carolina access to water-related recreational activities."
She added that SCMA, in conjunction with several national marine-related associations, hopes to plan a major celebration for the 2010 National Marina Day.
SCMA is a not-for-profit trade association representing the recreational marine industries and the individual boaters in South Carolina. Its mission is to promote the growth of recreational boating in South Carolina and a better boating experience in order to enhance the success of marine related activities in our state through an emphasis on the boating lifestyle, awareness and professionalism through economic, environmental, legislative and educational efforts
